Direct Marketing - How to Make a Tri-Fold Business Brochure
Saturday, November 23, 2013
While large corporations can usually afford the cost of designing and printing a brochure, small and locally owned business don't usually have the cash flow. If you're one of these small businesses, create your own brochure with software you already have in your office: Microsoft Word. The program allows you to choose the type of brochure you'd like, so you can design, print and fold it in about a day, saving you the cost of both a printer and designer.
1
Pick the type of format you want your brochure to appear in. This comes in two forms. The first includes a front and back, the left and right sides, that fold into the middle. It contains three middle panes when fully opened. The second form folds accordion-style, where the left third folds into the center on top and the back third folds into the center in the opposite direction.
2
Open Microsoft Word 2007 and click the "Page Layout" tab. Choose "Columns" from the "Page Setup" group and click "Three." Close the box and click "Page Setup" to launch the dialogue box. Change the orientation to "Landscape" under the "Margins" tab. Change the top and bottom margins to .5 and the left and right margins to .25. Save and close.
3
Insert your cursor into the first column. Select "Breaks" from under the "Page Layout" tab and choose "Column." Repeat this action until the cursor creates a sixth column, which appears on a second page. Do not perform this action if you're creating an accordion-style tri-fold.
4
Write and design your content into the appropriate columns, including your business name, address and logo. If you're designing a tri-fold where the left and right sides fold in, the first page columns are the inside left, middle and right contents columns. The second page left is the fold in content, the middle is the back and the right is the front. If you're designing an accordion-style, the left column on the first page is the front, the right is the back and the middle is simply the middle.
5
Print the content and fold as necessary. Click "Properties" in the print box if your computer doesn't print on both sides automatically. Choose the "duplex" option. This allows you to re-insert your paper into the printer so that you can print both front and back.
